The dream of offering bespoke fine jewelry was always pulling at my heart. I’ve always believed deeply in the power of heirloom pieces—treasures that carry a family’s growth, legacy, evolution, and hard work all in one tangible object. But to do it right, I needed a partner whose hands could execute what my mind imagined.

Enter California.

By complete chance, I met a master craftsperson with over three decades of experience under his belt. At the time, I needed a massive favor: someone to safely remove precious gems from a client’s ring so I could repurpose them into a new custom bracelet for her.

He did it flawlessly—and he did it for free.

I practically begged him to take my money, but he refused with a smile. He was quite simply the kindest man. I left that day, but I told him, "I won’t forget this."

A Kismet Connection

The idea kept spinning in my head. If I could collaborate with someone of his caliber, we could build something truly extraordinary. I went back to his shop, gathered my courage, and pitched him the idea: Collaborate with me. Let's make you WILYMI’s official fine jewelry atelier.

Before answering, he paused, looked at me, and asked where I was from.

"Canada," I said.  “Toronto”.

A look of pure shock crossed his face, and his eyes welled up with tears. "I'm from Toronto, too," he said. "I lived there for 30 years, and I miss my country so much."

When I asked him where, he named the exact intersection. It was minutes away from where I live currently.

From that moment, we weren't just business partners; we were true collaborative friends and peers.
